The Little Merrow…

the littlest mermaidWho lost her Magical Cap!  Merrows wear a special hat called a cohuleen druith, which enables them to dive beneath the waves. If they lose this cap, it is said that they will lose their power to return beneath the water.  Also, a Merrow music is known to be heard coming from the farthest depths of the ocean, yet the sound travels floatingly across the surface.  Merrows dance to the music, whether ashore on the strand or upon the wave.

Titania’s Littlest Fay…

the sleeping faerieIs all tuckered out after her most busy day

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I did wander everywhere,
Swifter than the moon’s sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green.
The cowslips tall her pensioners be:
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In those freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dewdrops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslip’s ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits; I’ll be gone:
Our queen and all our elves come here anon.

Ruby’s Metamorphosis

IMG_6897I have had the great privilege to be able to photograph the magical McDonald Sisters for the last five years…  and when I look over the photographs we have taken (a mere fraction of which I have posted) their metamorphosis into womanhood has been nothing short of astonishingly miraculous…  breathtaking, really.  And perhaps, when I began this project I did not truly understand the scope, or how tremendously moving it would be for me, the grandness of witnessing each of these tender buds, blossom into such beautifully unique flowers.  For in this photograph of Ruby, the youngest, it has become crystal clear to me that she is shedding her little red childhood cloak and bravely moving forward into the forest of the future and what ever may come her way… So I just want to humbly say, thank you for all the light and ticklish wonderment you have shared with me.  No, this is not the end, but nearly, and I wanted to leave you with my one wish for all of you, expressed so wondrously by  Maya Angelou, in  a letter she wrote to her daughter ~

“I am convinced that most people do not grow up…We marry and dare to have children and call that growing up. I think what we do is mostly grow old. We carry accumulation of years in our bodies, and on our faces, but generally our real selves, the children inside, are innocent and shy as magnolias.”

With much love and muchiness, I thank you!

Ana

Vila

tully 2

A woodland spirit who lives in the wilderness and sometimes in the clouds. She usually appear as a beautiful maiden, naked or dressed in a sparkling green skirts of leaves…

Vila’s voice is  beautiful as the rest of her, she can form large gusts of winds that can lift houses into the air. She has healing and prophetic powers and she is sometimes willing to help human beings. At other times, she lures young men to dance with her, which according to her mood can be a very good or very bad thing for the man.

Offerings for Vila consist of round cakes, ribbons, fresh fruits, and vegetables or flowers left at sacred sites (a certain mound, a ring of trees in the mountains, or even a hill that lightning strikes multiple times).
